The SSAT (Secondary School Admissions Test) is generally designed for students in grades 9-12 applying to both day and boarding schools. The test takes appoximently 3 hours and consists of verbal, quantitative and reading comprehension sections, as well as an ungraded written essay.
The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam) is generally used by independent schools in the Boston area for students applying to grades 5-8. This test consists of a verbal reasoning, a quantitative reasoning, a reading comprehension and a math acheivement section, as well as an ungraded written essay. This is also a 3 hour test.
